May have missed my shot at selling CNET shares

April 24, 2006

When you leave a company you have I think 90 days to sell any vested stock options. So I should have until early June to sell the few remaining CNET options I have. But after today’s quarterly earnings announcement it’s going to be worth less than I’d hoped for.

They announced a middling quarter but even worse they revised the 2006 forecast downward. Especially troubling since other advertising-driven Internet companies like Google and Yahoo announced gangbuster Q1 results. All of which caused CNET to take a major haircut in after-hours trading. Will be interesting to see if the sell-off carries into tomorrow or if there’s some recovery.

Sigh. Not that I have a lot of shares left, but I’d hoped it would be enough to buy something worthwhile. A momento of my nearly 10 years at CNET. Now it’s looking like I’ll be lucky to buy a couple t-shirts with the proceeds. Not exactly a lasting momento :-)
