Standing-room-only airplanes
April 25, 2006I was wondering when this would happen–Airbus is pitching the idea of standing-room-only airplanes. It would obviously only be for short-hop flights, but it would let airlines squeeze a lot more passengers into a plane. Kinda like everybody squeezing into a rush-hour train car.
I suppose it could also speed up disembarkation. Everybody’s already standing so it should be quicker to step off the plane.
I often hear people compare flying coach to being in a “cattle car”. Now the comparison will be more apt than ever–standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the rear compartment of the plane. Just like cattle beeing shipped to the packing house.
