Pence says he is off the 2007 ticket for Lt. Governor
May 31, 2006Our sitting Lt. Governor, Steve Pence, announced today that he’s not going to stand for re-election in 2007. The Governor has indicated repeatedly his intention to run in 2007, which means he now has to find a new running mate for that election.
Political junkies will have a field day with this. There’s so many things to read into it–the Governor’s well-known legal tussles over hiring practices have been a huge distraction for the Commonwealth. Pence did not say specifically how that factored into his decision but you know it has to be a factor.
Plus the Governor was not at the news conference–that has to mean something too. Nor is there yet any statement from the Governor’s office, I can’t imagine Pence made this announcement without notifying the Governor in advance so why is there no statement from the Governor?
So many things to read into all the machinations going on up there in Frankfort. It’s getting interesting here in the Bluegrass.
