Gonna have to remove a component of Wordpress
It turns out just deactivating TrackBack doesn’t affect previous posts. The config settings only apply to new posts. Which means I continue to get a flood of comment spams thru the Trackback mechanism.
I found a note on the Wordpress support site indicating I have two choices–update all the old entries so […]
Had to turn off TrackBack
Somebody has been comment-spamming my blog, using the TrackBack mechanism to insert links back to their own sites. They’ve been pretty clever, using only older posts. But I’ve been deleting the TrackBacks as they come in.
Still it’s getting old fast, I’ve had to delete a couple hundred trackbacks in the past week. […]
Another health benefits enrollment season
At my previous employer the health benefits season generally coincided with the calendar year, but here they start their new benefit year on July 1. Now I just started here in March, and at the time I went thru the health plan choices and picked ones that worked for me. But I knew […]
The “Boot Camp” class killed me
Tiffany, the executive assistant to our VP, has been recommending this “Boot Camp” class at the gym downstairs. So I finally decided to try it out yesterday, and I’m paying the price today.
About five minutes into the class I realized I had made a mistake. It was only the warm-up and I was […]
Where have all the voters gone?
My local polling station, the big Baptist church down at Hunsinger Lane, was very empty this morning. At first when I drove up I was excited to see a couple dozen cars. But when I walked in I realized most of those cars belonged to the poll workers. There was just one […]
Bausch & Lomb could be in trouble
Bausch & Lomb’s somewhat slow response to the eye-fungus fiasco may cause permanent damage to the brand and the company. At least that’s what an analyst over at Standard & Poor’s thinks.
I no longer wear contact lenses, I had lasik surgery many years ago and so far (knock on wood) my vision remains good […]
Underwhelmed by Yahoo!Tech
The new Yahoo! Tech site is, well, pretty underwhelming. Now I’ll admit I have a biased point of view–I was one of the early tech reviews editors at CNET.com. But that’s not the reason I’m disappointed in Yahoo! Tech. The main reason is just how old the content is.
For example, their article […]
Jucy’s gets three-and-a-half stars
Jucy’s, which isn’t actually in Louisville but just across the county line in Oldham County, is the best barbecue in town. That’s not just my opinion, it’s officially the Courier-Journal’s opinion as well.
About time Jucy’s got a little recognition around town. I really miss the place–it’s too far from my new office to […]
My battery-powered lawn mower is dying
I’ve mostly been paying a neighbor’s kid to mow my lawn so far this summer, but I wanted to mow it myself at least a few times. See when he mows he’s using a lawn tractor and just mulches the grass back onto the lawn, which isn’t a good thing to do every week. […]
Cancelled my TechRepublic emails
I had told my friends at TechRepublic that I’d keep reading the newsletters after I left. But the truth is that their email newsletters have just been piling up in my Inbox. Haven’t opened the vast majority of them, I’ve just been archiving them (one of the beauties of GMail, having so much […]
