My neighbor’s crazy, or at least a little obsessed
June 22, 2006So I get home yesterday around 5:30 p.m., and my neighbor is out mowing his lawn. It’s like 90, both the temperature and the humidity, but he’s out there happily pushing his lawn mower around.
We all know he has the best lawn in the neighborhood. He doesn’t need to put his life at risk, in that stifling heat, just to maintain that lawn. At the very least he could have waited until 7 p.m. or so, let it cool down into the 80’s so the risk of heat stroke is much less.
I think the guy’s a wee bit crazy to be putting that much effort into his yard. There’s a story in there somewhere, there has to be a reason he puts that much into the yard. Something in his childhood, something in his marriage, I don’t know what but something. It’s not natural.

I’m sorry it bothered you. I’d gladly give it up if the wife would let me mow her lawn.
