I’m still eating my watermelon cold
July 31, 2006So filed under the heading of “Scientists trying to make life less enjoyable” is this piece of research that shows ice-cold watermelon is less nutritious than room temperature watermelon. Apparently the melons will continue to produce nutrients like beta-carotene even after they’re harvested. Unless of course you chill them, which slows the production of these nutrients.
Well I’m sorry but there is no way I’m eating room-temperature watermelon. I’m eating them refrigerated, as God intended. That’s the reason we have adjustable shelves in the fridge, so we can accomodate odd-sized items like watermelons.
Sometimes I just wish these scientists would leave well enough alone. They need to be spending time on the more important research, like finding a way to make a no-fat Suzy-Q that tastes as good as the regular version.
