At last, single-serve Spam!
September 17, 2006I don’t remember how long ago this happened but it was at least a year, probably more. I was at the big flea market held over at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center, same place they hold the Kentucky State Fair. There was a big wagon from Spam, and they were giving away samples of single-serve Spam.
At the time I thought it was brilliant, especially for single folks like me. No more having to toss the spoiled remains from a Spam can you’d opened earlier, just tear open one of these single-serve Spam pouches whenever you need to satisfy the craving. There is nothing quite like a Spam omelet, or some Spam-fried rice. Yum.
Unfortunately I never saw the product in the store shelves. Until today–I happened to stop at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Grocery, which is in St. Matthews. If you’ve never been, it’s essentially the Wal-Mart version of a Krogers. No TV’s or clothing, it’s just the grocery section all by itself in a building.
Don’t know if this means they’re rolling out the single-serve to other Wal-Marts or if it’s just the Neighborhood Grocery store that will be getting it. I’ll keep my eye out whenever I stop by the regular Wal-Mart but at least if I need a Spam fix I know I can get it at the St. Matthews store.
I am so looking forward to making some Spam-fried rice later this week.

I like you, but you are one sick puppy.
I haven’t had Spam since I was a lass, knee-high to a grasshopper. Is it *really* good? *Really?*
It is totally good. Maybe it’s just a Pacific Islander kind of thing–I know Hawaiians love it, and of course most Filipinos I know love it.
