‘Studio 60′ is too good to stay on the air for long

September 19, 2006

Last night was the premiere of “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip“, starring Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford. It was fast, smart, and funny. Which means it’s doomed–they don’t let good shows like this last on TV nowadays.

I was just so surprised, because it’s been hyped pretty hard and I didn’t think anything could live up to that. But this did. I really like the premise–a SNL-type sketch show that has seen better days has to call in two guys who used to run the show (Perry and Whitford) as saviors. It’s also a great excuse for lots of celebrity cameos, like last night the “special guest” for the sketch show was Felicity Huffman.

This is looking like the first time since the X-Files that I will have “appointment television“. Where I’ll make an effort to sit down and watch the new episodes as they come out.
