Teenagers should not be trick-or-treating
October 31, 2006Tonight was a rather dreary evening, an intermittent light drizzle. So it kept the number of trick-or-treaters down which was unfortunate. I realized early it would be a problem so I started giving out twice the normal candy per kid. And I still ended up with a bag of candy left over.
The thing that got me though was that a fair percent of the trick-or-treaters who did come out were not kids. They were teenagers, a few of them easily 15 or older. Come on now, you should not be trick-or-treating at that age.
Plus at that age they don’t want to put out the effort to say “trick-or-treat”. I don’t know if I should give them candy unless they say the magic words.
Now the little kids were definitely into it. One little guy rang my doorbell and immediately yelled out “trick-or-treat” at the top of his lungs. Didn’t bother to wait for me to actually open the door. Now he got extra candy for effort and enthusiasm.
