Another place I need to visit: Halong Bay in Vietnam

Dammit, the list of places I need to visit before I die keeps getting longer. A friend from when I was working in San Francisco just called and told me about an awesome 3-week trip he took to Vietnam. The big thing was that he was hosted, he had a friend from Vietnam who played host and tour guide. That definitely makes a difference when you visit a country like that, I know for me Thailand was awesome because we were hosted by a friend. It would not have been anywhere near as fun on your own or as part of some foreign tour group.

So anyway, the place in Vietnam that I’m adding to my list is Halong Bay. Apparently Vietnam has built an enormous new port so there will soon be tourist-type infrastructure in the area. It looks just gorgeous, quite a spectacular place to visit.
