A surfeit of PS3’s, but not a single Wii
January 7, 2007I figured it’s been a couple weeks since Christmas so I went looking to see if there were any Wii’s available. No such luck–not a single damned Wii anywhere I went.
The weird thing though is that the PS3 seems to be widely available. There were units available at almost every store I visited. Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Target, and Gamestop all had PS3’s. In fact they all had multiple units available, though only the Target had a 20 GB model. Everybody else had just the more expensive 60 GB model available.
Now I don’t believe for a second that Sony has somehow fixed the manufacturing issues that kept the PS3 in such limited supply before Christmas. I think it shows the disparity in demand, not supply. Everybody is still wanting to get a Wii, while demand for the PS3 is soft.
It seems like all the Sony fan-boys already have their units, so now demand for the PS3 is drying up. Whereas the Wii demand is still strong, strong enough that nobody can keep the thing in stock.

And at last, the quest has ended. […]
