The Wiimote batteries didn’t last very long
February 20, 2007I’ve had my Nintendo Wii for about three weeks now, and last night I got an on-screen warning that the batteries in the Wiimote are dangerously low. If you figure I am playing perhaps 30 minutes a night, over about 22 days, that means 11 hours of usage.
That doesn’t seem like a lot. Either the Wiimote is sucking down power, or the default batteries that came with it are wimpy. I hope it’s the latter, I’ve purchased a replacement set of Rayovac Alkalines and we’ll see how those do.
I may decide to pick up some rechargeables. Those usually don’t make sense for remotes, because rechargeables lose power pretty quickly over time even if they aren’t being used.
But since I’m using the Wiimote a fair amount it may not be so bad to switch to rechargeables. Besides I’ve been reading that there’s a new generation of rechargeables that have almost alkaline-like abilities in terms of holding a charge while sitting un-used.
