CompUSA closing half its stores, Louisville stays open for now
February 28, 2007CompUSA just announced they’re closing over half their stores. Though apparently the one in Louisville is spared for now.
I bet it’s the Internet–the very tech geeks they cater to are the ones most likely to be getting their tech fixes from e-commerce sites. I know I’ve bought more this past year from Woot.com than from CompUSA.
It’s just remarkable how disruptive a technology the Internet has been. It’s been great for a lot of businesses but it has also decimated others. Just look at all the small bookstores who survived the mega-chains but couldn’t last against Amazon.com.
