Hardest. Midterm. Ever.
March 7, 2007The instructor for my Advanced Database class released the midterm on the class page last Thursday. It’s a take-home, due in two weeks. And I’m starting to fear I will need every spare moment of those two weeks to get it done.
I started on it Monday evening. In two hours I just managed to finish all the parts of the first question. Last night I worked another two hours to finish the second question. There’s 8 questions total, if they all take 2 hours it’s going to be a 16-hour midterm.
Actually I’m guessing some of the later questions will take me longer that 2 hours. Over these two weeks I could easily end up devoting 24 hours to the midterm.
That just seems kinda excessive. I know take-homes are supposed to be more difficult than in-class tests but this is way over the top. I’ll have spent more time on the test than the total hours he has lectured so far (2-and-a-half hours every week for the past seven weeks).
God I hope this isn’t what all graduate courses are like. I may not make it thru this degree program if they are all like this.
