I’m going to see The Police!
March 22, 2007So on Tuesday night I got via email one of those special offer codes from Best Buy. It let me get into the pre-sale for tickets to The Police show at Churchill Downs yesterday. It doesn’t guarantee you a ticket of course, just lets you try to buy one of the available pre-sale tickets.
Unfortunately I had a meeting scheduled for the exact time when tickets went on sale Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. I wasn’t certain that there’d be anything left by 11 a.m. when I finally had a chance to go online to Ticketmaster. But there were still tickets available, something called turf-level. No seating chart at the Ticketmaster site so I’m not sure where these are, I’m guessing these will be folding chairs put down on the infield in front of the stage.
They’d better be good seats because they were almost $250 each, so I’m out $500. I also bought a parking pass, almost $30 for that. That ticket price includes the almost $22 Ticketmaster fee. Which is an outrage–essentially 10 percent of the ticket price went to Ticketmaster.
Now the question is what to cut in my budget to accomodate this. Because this was a totally unexpected expense, a big hole in my budget. Something has to give, probably will have to cut back on all other entertainment costs. No new book or CD / DVD purchases for a while. The one exception will be if George R.R. Martin finally finishes the next book in his Ice and Fire cycle.
And I think I’ll have to skip Abbey Road on the River this year, though it’s been a lot of fun the last couple years. But that show will return, it has made Louisville the official home. The Police may not, this is probably my one chance to see them perform live.
