First lawn mowing of 2007
March 24, 2007Really I could have mowed the lawn a couple weekends ago, the grass was already tall enough in some spots to justify that. But I’m kinda allergic to grass. If I get too much of it in my eyes they get red as rust, and very itchy. That’s not my only allergy to grass–I also tend to start sniffling and sneezing when there’s grass bits flying around in the air. So I put off the mowing as much as I can.
Probably should just hire somebody to mow it. Except that everybody I’ve interviewed for the job wants to mulch the grass rather than bag it. And as fast as this grass grows, mulching it down onto the lawn would leave me with a thick carpet of dead grass that would choke off the lawn. It couldn’t compost fast enough to keep up with the subsequent load of grass clippings from the next mowing.
So for now I just mow and bag it myself. Really it’s kinda fun in a way, even if I do have an allergic reaction. I like being outdoors and sweating and turning up the iPod so it drowns out the lawn mower. As long as I have a good supply of Kleenex for the runny nose and Visine for the eyes I’ll be okay.
