A reminder why kids should not be brought to work
April 26, 2007Today was “Bring your kids to work” day, and once again it served as a reminder why kids should not be allowed in the work place. Not because they’re loud and disruptive, but because they’re too honest and direct to fit into a proper workplace.
One of the IT guys was over at a cubicle near me this morning to replace a CD-ROM drive on somebody’s laptop. He had brought his son to work, I’d guess maybe seven or eight years old. He was taking the boy around doing stuff like this bit of laptop maintainence.
“This cube is bigger than yours,” I heard the young boy say.
“Yes,” said his Dad.
“Everybody’s cube is bigger than yours,” was the boy’s reply. Everybody of course broke out laughing. Brutally honest and to the point. You don’t want to hear that from anybody let alone your own son.
The funniest part is that the young boy is blind. He had determined the cubicle size from a few pokes of his cane, which was I thought pretty remarkable. He may not have eyesight but he definitely has a very clear insight into the importance of cubicle sizes.
