New Fox show yanked after two episodes

April 27, 2007

Fox has pulled their new series Drive off the air after a mere two episodes aired. It’s amazing to me that these TV networks spend so much time and energy creating a show, and then won’t give it any time to see if it can find an audience. I mean there’s several additional episodes already in the can, why not let them play out to see if they can build some interest in the show?

Now admittedly I’m not a viewer of this particular show. I caught a few minutes of the opener and decided I wasn’t interested. But that doesn’t mean there’s no audience–clearly some talented and creative people put energy into creating the show, why not at least play out the initial run of episodes?

I feel bad for Nathan Fillion, who starred in this show. This is now the third series he’s been on that got canned after one season or less–Firefly, Miss Match, and now Drive. The one I really liked was Firefly which despite a short run got enough post-cancellation interest to spawn a feature-length movie, Serenity.
I’m not saying he’s cursed, after all he has been on at least one successful series. Well, successful in terms of running for several seasons. I’ll admit I never watched it though–Two Guys and a Pizza Place.

It’s not Fillion’s fault that his new show got cancelled so quickly. It’s Fox for not having a little patience after spending so much time and money developing a new show.
