Spidey 3 grosses almost $150 million in just 3 days

May 6, 2007

Holy shit, Spiderman 3 grossed $148 million in its opening weekend.  Almost $50 million a day.  And that’s without me–I’m sure my $8 would have kicked it over the top.

Thing is, there’s just so many movies coming out this summer.  I can’t possible afford the time or money to see them all, so I”m going to be choosy.  I definitely have to see Pirates, despite the crappiness of the last episode.  That one was a cliffhanger and those bastards at Disney knew that would force a lot of people to go see the third installment.

I’m probably also going to see the Fantastic Four sequel, and despite the fact that Michael Bay is directing I wll also go to see the Transformers movie.  I’ll also have to see the Harry Potter flick coming out this summer, and the Bourne Ultimatum as well.

Yes, most of those are sequels.  Which is partly why I’m skipping Spiderman 3, and probably Shrek 3 as well.  I don’t want to do an all-sequel summer.

I figure I’ll see Spiderman 3 eventually, maybe when it comes out on DVD.  Just in time for Christmas I”m sure.

I haven’t heard a good thing about Spiderman 3 from anyone so far. Of course, with box office numbers like that, it may not matter what I (or you, or my mom, for that matter) think. Still, your $8 and my $14 (damn you Los Angeles movie ticket prices!) will probably be safer elsewhere.

Oh–Foster Fun Fact™ #142 and #143: It’s a body double any time Toby has the mask on, and EVERYONE, including the body double, has foam muscles in their suits. Apparently, the kinds of stunt men who are flexible and dancer-y enough to pull off those movements are almost always less bulky than Spiderman, so fake muscles all around. It also, I’d imagine, allowed the studio to use more stunt men, since they could pad out differently to a greater denominator of bulk.

I saw Hot Fuzz last night. Still not worth $14 per, but a great movie, and I’m sure it was better than Spiderman.
