Happy 30th Star Wars Anniversary

May 25, 2007

Weird to realize that it’s 30 years ago today when Star Wars was first released.  There’s a generation of people out there who’ve never known a world without Star Wars in it.

R2-D2 is still my favorite character.  The only Star Wars action figure I own is a little R2-D2 with a button you can press so he’ll play some of his beeps and chirps.

Now that’s not however the only Star Wars toy I have.  I do own a couple versions of the Star Destroyer, my favorite spaceship of the series.  From the opening shot, when that Star Destroyer is bearing down on Leia’s ship, I’ve wanted to own one.

I’m not thrilled with what Lucas has been doing in terms of revisionist history (Han shot first, dammit).  And of the three prequels only the last one, Revenge of the Sith, is worth watching again.

But the original Star Wars was a true enduring classic.  I may drag the projector out onto the porch tonight and watch it under the stars, the way it was meant to be.
