The ankle of agony
I don’t know what I did to my left ankle, but sometime Monday I must have twisted or otherwise injured it. Because since Tuesday morning it’s been in pain.
First noticed it Tuesday when I tried to get out of bed. I sleep on the left side of my bed so my left foot is the […]
Leave Larry Craig alone
Look, those of us from Idaho have heard the rumours for quite some time that Larry Craig was gay. As a right-wing conservative who opposes gay marriage, his sexual orientation does seem like it would be newsworthy.
He’s of course denying that he’s gay. However I noticed that’s all he’s denying–he never once denied being bisexual. […]
Last day of the state fair = no animals
So sad–there were almost no animals left at the Kentucky State Fair today. Just building after building of empty stalls, some still filled with hay:
Of course this was the very last day of the fair so I guess that’s to be expected. Everybody already packed up their animals and left. The non-animal stuff was still […]
Why such a big spread in forecast temperature?
Listening to the radio this morning I got the shock of the day–they said it was going to be 104 today, with a heat index making it feel like 110. But then I checked Weather.com and they said it will be 100, feels like 104.
Now of course either is damned hot, but I just wonder […]
$90 is too much for a used textbook
I’m taking the Analysis of Algorithms class at U of L this semester, and I just bought the textbook yesterday afternoon. Paid $90 for a used, yes *used*, copy. The new copy would have set me back $120.
Both prices are an outrage. This is a one-semester course, so it’s not like the database textbook I […]
Damn but I wish I could play first-person shooters
When it comes to video games I have a major handicap–I get severely motion-sick after just a few minutes in every first-person game I’ve ever attempted to play. Even the ones where you can play over-the-shoulder, like in Resident Evil, still cause me to get sick and have to quit playing. In fact even old-school shooters […]
The cough from hell
I had to go home from work just before noon yesterday, I was feeling really sick. The annoying part is that I had taken the bus to work, and there’s no mid-day express bus back to my neighborhood. So I ended up paying $30 to take a cab home.
But it was worth it because I […]
Missionary with the too-wide tie
I never thought 90 degrees would sound cool, but in the midst of this scorching heat-wave yesterday only got to 90 and damned if that didn’t seem cool. Still it must have been quite hot anyway for people walking around in suits. Like the two Mormon missionaries I drove past talking to a couple potential […]
Watching my 401K shrink away
Sometimes I hate the Internet. I mean, it’s nice having all that information at your fingertips. But right now I’m getting too much information on my retirement plan.
I check my 401K balance probably once a week, it’s kinda addicting. At least it was earlier this year, when it would just keep going up and up […]
Finally, an online version of Quicken coming soon
I’m surprised it took them so long to do this, but apparently Intuit is nearing the beta test for the online version of Quicken. I for one cannot wait, and wish they’d done it sooner.
I actually use Moneydance right now, mostly because my laptop is dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu Linux. See Moneydance is written in […]
