Last day of the state fair = no animals
August 26, 2007So sad–there were almost no animals left at the Kentucky State Fair today. Just building after building of empty stalls, some still filled with hay:
Of course this was the very last day of the fair so I guess that’s to be expected. Everybody already packed up their animals and left. The non-animal stuff was still there, like the 184 pound watermelon.
Plus all the commercial exhibitors were still around, the folks selling hot tubs and sunrooms and ring cleaners. As well as the state exhibitors, like the health department with the variouse eye and cancer screening booths. Stuff like that.
Luckily the food booths were also open, so I got my one deep-fried twinkie for the year. God those things are so wrong, and yet so right.
Next year I’m going to try and attend the fair earlier. It was just too damned hot this year, which is why I delayed until the last minute. Today was warm but stayed below 90. So it was tolerable.

The animals are gone because the good citizens of the commonwealth are eating them.
Mmm…bacon.
Well, there was that bucket of KFC I bought for a party on Saturday.
