Booked my first Mileage Plus trip

September 25, 2007

I’ve been a member of United’s Mileage Plus program for years.  In fact I can honestly say I’ve been a member for decades.  Yes, I’m that old thank you very much.

I don’t actually fly that often though, and I don’t always fly United.  So it’s taken a while but I now have over 100,000 miles now in my account.

I was kinda thinking I’d save it for a big trip, like a flight to Australia or something.  But they just changed the program where part of my miles will expire at the end of this year.  I hadn’t booked my flight to visit Mom for Christmas and figured what the heck, I’ll use some of those United miles.

This is the first time I’ve used my miles for a trip.  Their Web site was surprisingly simple–took me maybe ten minutes to find the flight and book it.  And I decided I’d splurge by using enough miles to book business class instead of economy.

That should make for a nice flight, at least on the Chicago-to-Boise leg.  I’m hoping it might also grant me access to their Red Carpet club in Chicago.  Don’t know but we’ll see.

From Louisville-to-Chicago it’s a smaller jet but apparently it is still a dual-class jet because when I went to pick my seats it showed me only the first two rows of the jet.  A small business class section, but I’ll take it.
