Ninjawords is my new favorite dictionary
October 16, 2007I’m a long-time user of the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. Mostly because the url is so easy to type: m-w.com. But a friend at work recently told me about a dictionary site he uses, ninjawords.com.
I love their motto: A really fast dictionary… fast like a ninja. I also love the history–as you look up words the new definitions get added to the top of the history list. So all the words you look up in one session appear on the same page. Very nice handy feature.
And the site really is fast. Much faster than Merriam-Webster’s site, which is becoming a bit bloated with ads.
The one potential issue is that Ninjawords uses wiktionary.org, so the definitions are subject to the vagaries of the Wiki. Somebody could feed in an incorrect definition, or they could define a word that isn’t really a word.
Still, it seemed to work pretty well on the words I tried.
