Purple Rain: best movie soundtrack ever

October 24, 2007

Finally, a movie-related Top Ten list where I actually agree with the number 1 pick.  Vanity Fair is calling Purple Rain the best movie soundtrack ever.

They made it clear they don’t consider Purple Rain the best movie musical — they describe it as the “best badly acted film ever”.  But the soundtrack was something else.  It’s an awesome album, one that has I think withstood the test of time.  Even if Prince’s music has been somewhat erratic since, that one album was something that will cement his place in music history.

We will fogive him for Grafitti Bridge, because he gave us Purple Rain.

The Black album, which Prince contended was inspired by evil (and thus was never released), is w/o any doubt his best. Evil friggin rocks.
