Can a frozen pie really last two years?
November 20, 2007I was at Wal-Mart, scoping out the PS3 and Blu-Ray selection in case I decide to come back on Saturday for their special deal where you buy the 80 GB PS3 and get 10 Blu Ray discs free. After seeing the selection they had I think I’m gonna pass on this deal.
But when I was wandering around I passed the frozen food section and decided I should pick up a pie to take to Thanksgiving. I noticed that there was a selection of Wal-Mart branded frozen pies, and what really caught my eye was when I looked at the expiration date. Or actually, I guess they usually call them “Best when used by” instead of “expiration” because it sounds better.
Anyway, the expiration date on these pies was August 2009. That’s almost two years from now. I can’t imagine how a pie, packaged in nothing more than a cardboard box, can stay edible after being frozen for two years.
The box had a cellophane top so you could see the pie inside. There was no special shrink-wrap or other protective wrapping on the pie. All it had to protect it for those two years was the thin little carboard box. With the see-thru cellophane top.
I’m tempted to buy one and then stick it in the freezer for the next two years just to see.

Step away from the pie! Don’t believe its lies… run! Pie that old can not possibly be good for you… or could it? Hmm….
