Peter Jackson to make two-movie version of “The Hobbit”
December 18, 2007Our long national nightmare is over — New Line and director Peter Jackson have buried the hatchet in their royalties disput over The Lord of the Rings. Meaning they can now get down to business and film Tolkein’s pre-LOTR book, The Hobbit.
I wonder if they’ll be able to line up Ian McKellan to reprise his role as Gandalf? The man’s getting pretty old, he’ll be 70 by the time filming starts on these new films. And working two movies back-to-back has to be a grind, will he want to go thru that after having already gone thru the LOTR marathon?
I’m just hoping they come up with some extra cool special effects for Smaug. We saw the dragons they were able to create for the LOTR flicks, we need something even that much better for Smaug. Since he’s such a critical character to the story.
Of course this all assumes they can even get filming started on time. With this writer’s strike who knows when they’ll get a script ready to film?
