US has highest percentage of adults in prison

This isn’t a stat where you want to be number one: the US has the highest percentage of incarcerated adults. Not just highest in the industrial world, but higher than any other country on Earth. Just over 1 percent of every adult is in prison.

Something has gone wrong, when the lone superpower on Earth has to put so many of its own people behind bars. I have no idea what the fix is, I just know that something is broken.
