$3,000 prostitutes??

The apparent fact that Eliot Spitzer, governor of New York, utilizes call girls is not the part that surprises me. What does surprise me is that these were apparently $3,000 prostitutes.

Who knew there were such things as $3,000 prostitutes? And just how good-looking are these ladies to be worth that much? It better be Julia-Roberts-in-Pretty-Woman good looking to justify that rate.

Actually the story says the girls charged up to $3,100. I wonder why they didn’t just round down to an even $3,000? I mean really, at those rates they could give the governor a little discount. I mean he is a powerful man, he could do them a favor or something in return for a bit lower rate.

One thing I do know, this pretty much ends his political career. He might survive as governor, but if he ever had ambitions beyond New York this effectively ends that.

Especially galling of course is the hypocrisy. It’s like the Foley scandal — that guy crusaded against child predators and it turns out he was one. Same thing here — Spitzer prosecuted prostitution vigorously when he was attorney general, now it turns out he’s a customer. Maybe he prosecuted the prostitutes who weren’t giving him a discount on their rates.

Of course the Republicans are going to use this. Because up till now it seemed most of the sex scandals lately were Republicans (Foley and Larry Craig, to name two). Now there’s a Democrat caught with his pants down.
