The French over-do the protest
April 7, 2008Look, it’s one thing to use the media attention surrounding the Olympic torch relay to voice a political viewpoint. But the French have taken their free-Tibet protests too far, causing parts of the torch relay to be cancelled.
Come on, the people running the torch have been looking forward to this moment for quite some time. Running the torch during the relay does not indicate a political stance. They’re just people who wanted to participate in some small way in the Olympic movement. Doesn’t mean they support China’s suppression of Tibet.
Doesn’t move the Tibet cause forward one iota, it’s not going to change the minds of the leaders in Beijing. By forcing the cancellation of the run, these protesters have only hurt the innocent runners who had been looking forward to this rare chance at running with the Olympic torch.
