People should stop telling Hillary to quit

May 21, 2008

Now look, I agree the math isn’t looking too good for Hillary Clinton. She is almost certainly not going to be the nominee. But she has a fair point when she says there isn’t a nominee yet. And until either Obama or Clinton actually has the numbers to be the nominee, neither of them should be thinking of quitting.

That is what elections are all about — until somebody has enough votes to be the winner, then there isn’t a winner yet. So there’s absolutely nothing wrong with Hillary staying in the race a while longer. If and when Obama actually secures the nomination, I’m sure Hillary will congratulate her opponent and then start gearing up to support him in the fall campaign.

There’s still plenty of time, no need to rush by pushing a damned fine candidate out the door before she really needs to leave. Let her be for God’s sake, and let the nominating contest run its natural course.

I agree. I thought that was the purpose of the national convention (to select the nominee).
