Vanderbilt is nationally ranked?

Maybe this is the apocalypse — the housing market is tanking, gas prices are soaring, Wall Street banks are collapsing, and Vanderbilt is nationally ranked.
The first three are bad enough, but little old Vanderbilt clawing its way back into the national football rankings has to be the final sign. The thing that pushes the […]

In a world without gasoline

Absolutely every gas station between work and home was without gas the last few days. And that’s saying something because part of my commute is along Nolensville Road, which has a gas station about every hundred feet it seems.
Supposedly supplies are being trucked in and diverted from elsewhere to try and re-stock. But […]

Can’t find a car stereo with everything I want

So I need to replace the lame factory stereo that came with my Crossfire — the biggest strike against it is there’s no way to plug in an iPod. Neither an AUX or USB or iPod cable or anything like that. But as long as I’m replacing the unit I was thinking I […]

The white cow from the Tennessee State Fair

The white cow

Originally uploaded by rexworld

Went to the Tennessee State Fair last weekend. It’s not bad, not nearly as humngous as the Kentucky State Fair but sizeable.
The animal exhibits were cool, like this white cow. But the food was way overpriced. Like $7 for chicken-on-a-stick, an outrage.

Okay, this really was the toughest workout of my life

Just kidding about the toughest workout of my life last week. Tonight Alan really beat me up, he tightened the screws even more.
At about the 20 minute mark I seriously considered telling him I needed to quit. But then the little voice inside said I should just man up and tough it out […]

Toughest 30-minute workout of my life

My weight has crept up about 5 pounds since moving to Nashville. I blame mostly the fact that there’s no gym at work — in Louisville I was going to the gym every day because it was right there on the second floor of the office building. And the Wii Fit hasn’t been […]

Applebee’s makes a dry, over-salted steak

I don’t often eat at Applebee’s, and after last night it might be a good long while before I go back. I tried the cajun steak, and apparently by cajun they mean salty. Because that was the only identifiable spice I tasted on the steak, tons and tons of salt. But nothing […]

Farewell Summer 2008

Well, it’s Labor Day Weekend so unofficially that marks the end of another summer. As a working adult of course it’s not as big a deal as it used to be when I was a kid. Back then it meant back-to-school. Nowadays it’s just a nice 3-day weekend break from work.
It also […]

End of the world is near

I’m not talking about Hillary’s presidential campaign officially coming to an end this week. No, when I say the end of the world is near I’m talking about the Large Hadron Collider over at CERN. Testing has apparently been going smoothly, which means they will be ready for full-scale particle collisions within a […]

Tropic Thunder is mindless fun

After spending two days focused on writing code for a project at work, I needed some mindless entertainment last night. Which is exactly what I found when I went to see Tropic Thunder.
The disability advocates who protested this movie have a point. It gets pretty close to going over the line with the […]
